Snowshoeing adventure in Riisitunturi National Park

"Wow! This is like another planet!" said James, age 12, after seeing Riisitunturi for the first time. Welcome to Riisitunturi, where snow-covered trees stand like magical sculptures, and the vast, silent Arctic landscape stretches endlessly around you. On this private snowshoeing tour, you’ll explore this enchanting winter wonderland at your own pace. Your guide will lead you along trails through the snow, revealing hidden gems and breathtaking viewpoints. Whether you’re trekking across pristine snowfields or pausing to admire the views, Riisitunturi offers an unforgettable Arctic experience.

What’s Included in Your Adventure:

  • A private tour tailored to your group’s pace, perfect for soaking in the scenery and capturing photos whenever you like.
  • A chance to trek through untouched snow, breathe in crisp Arctic air, and enjoy a cozy campfire meal with stories about Riisitunturi’s nature and history.
  • Routes designed to suit all skill levels, from easy trails to more challenging ones with steeper slopes or deeper snow.

Tour Details:

  • Duration: 3–6 hours (plus a 40-minute transfer from Ruka). The duration of the tour depends on your preferences and the weather. You can decide the length of the tour on-site together with your guide.
  • Distance: 4–8 km, customized to your group’s preferences and abilities.
  • Difficulty: Suitable for anyone who can walk 4 km. Adventurous options are available for those seeking a challenge.

Seasonal Highlights:

  • Midwinter Magic: Around Christmas, the sun barely peeks above the horizon, creating a unique Arctic glow. On the Winter Solstice (21st December), the shortest day of the year, the sun rises at 10:42 and sets at 13:20—perfect for a rare and unforgettable experience.
  • Blue January: The days gradually lengthen, and the Arctic is bathed in a soft, blue light. Early tours (8 am) let you enjoy the pastel colors of the sunrise, while late tours (12 pm) let you watch the sunset as dusk settles.
  • Brightening February and Spring Winter: February brings more sunlight, and by March, long, bright days and deep snow create the perfect conditions for exploring. Early risers can still catch stunning sunrises, so don’t hesitate to ask about customized departure times.
